Opinion

We believe CCD and other diseases are caused by modern beekeeping practice and want to introduce the following Organic Hive™ Bee-tending principles to preserve and strengthen bee colony health on a local and national scale. Our goal is to start building a network of Organic Hive™ bee-tenders across the nation.

We hereby establish the following principles of Organic Beekeeping:

Skip to Principle I II III IV

I. Natural Environment

Hives must be constructed of 100% natural materials with no prepressed frames.

II. No supplements -ever-

With the exception of initial feedings with organic sugar syrup to establish your bee colony. No feedings or supplements are ever introduced into the hive colony or hive space.

III. No treatments -ever-

No toxic fungicides, pesticides, or man-made products of any kind including oils, powders etc., are ever introduced into the colony or hive space. I've proven these are not necessary. If the bee colony dies, then consider ordering a new clean hive and working with local organic or natural beekeepers to get a stronger bee colony.

IV. No harvesting -ever-

Probably the most controversial Principle. Organic Hive™ beekeeping involves tending bees, not keeping them as beasts of burden. Just leave them bee. You might be saying... "But what about the honey!?" By letting the bees winter over on their own honey, swarm when they need to, etc., an Organic Hive™ serves a valuable pollinating service and will help combat diseases that traditional beekeeping practices are causing. Diseases like the mysterious CCD (colony collapse disorder). By leaving an Organic Hive™ alone, you are providing a valuable service that has the potential to strengthen hive strength and adaptability for the future. All of your gardener neighbors will be grateful! If you're interested in learning more about the remarkable Honey bee.
